Week 3: Photoshopping Ads... Should We or Shouldn't We?

There is definitely a place and time for using Photoshop. It is a great tool for editing pictures and can really impact an advertisement. However sometimes it’s hard to distinguish where we need to draw the line. Photoshopped images can be a touchy subject, especially when it comes to advertising. However, editors must find a happy medium. I don’t believe that there is a problem with colour correction, beautifying or editing pictures in general.  For example, things such as pimples, skin spots, dirt, etc., are all things that could be edited no problem. The issue arises when editors start changing the image/idea being conveyed completely. If your photo is no longer giving the same idea as it was before you started editing, chances are you’re over-editing and in turn, lying. For example, if you are changing someone’s body size, you are using Photoshop in an incredibly dishonest way, and that is not right.
