I will start this blog post off by saying that I don’t
understand what people are getting worked up over. There will always be a
select group of individuals who are somewhat over-sensitive and/or
over-dramatic.
I think that this agency understands shoppers who have a
sense of humour. I don’t believe that this advertisement was meant to be taken
too seriously. The agency is simply using light humour in this campaign. If I
were on the management team at The Mic Mac Mall, I too would not see a problem
with running the campaign.
I don’t find the ad to be “sexist” in the slightest. Aside
from the graphics of the women, this ad makes no reference to women at all. And
let’s face it – women have a far greater interest in shopping than men do.
Perhaps the campaign would have received less publicity had they featured both
men and women. None the less, I don’t believe that the campaign deserves this
much negative attention… I find it to be completely harmless and fun.
