There is definitely a place and time for using Photoshop. It
is a great tool for editing pictures and can really impact an advertisement.
However sometimes it’s hard to distinguish where we need to draw the line.
Photoshopped images can be a touchy subject, especially when it comes to
advertising. However, editors must find a happy medium. I don’t believe that
there is a problem with colour correction, beautifying or editing pictures in
general. For example, things such as
pimples, skin spots, dirt, etc., are all things that could be edited no
problem. The issue arises when editors start changing the image/idea being conveyed completely. If your photo is no longer giving the same idea as it was before
you started editing, chances are you’re over-editing and in turn, lying. For
example, if you are changing someone’s body size, you are using Photoshop in an
incredibly dishonest way, and that is not right.

Week 2 : Mic Mac Mall Back to School Campaign
I will start this blog post off by saying that I don’t
understand what people are getting worked up over. There will always be a
select group of individuals who are somewhat over-sensitive and/or
over-dramatic.
I think that this agency understands shoppers who have a
sense of humour. I don’t believe that this advertisement was meant to be taken
too seriously. The agency is simply using light humour in this campaign. If I
were on the management team at The Mic Mac Mall, I too would not see a problem
with running the campaign.
I don’t find the ad to be “sexist” in the slightest. Aside
from the graphics of the women, this ad makes no reference to women at all. And
let’s face it – women have a far greater interest in shopping than men do.
Perhaps the campaign would have received less publicity had they featured both
men and women. None the less, I don’t believe that the campaign deserves this
much negative attention… I find it to be completely harmless and fun.
